Dying
Voluntary assisted dying (VAD) is a legal end-of-life process
through which eligible people dying from a progressive terminal
illness may legally choose the manner and timing of their death.
It enables eligible people to voluntarily access and
self-administer -- or in some cases have a doctor administer -- a
medication that will end their life.
In Australia, voluntary assisted dying (VAD) laws are operating in
all States - Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania, South
Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales. VAD laws have been
passed in the Australian Capital Territory and will commence on 3
November 2025
